JAWS Reboot in 3D Rumors | JAWSmovie.com

JAWS Reboot in 3D?

The internet was abuzz recently about the news of an upcoming JAWS reboot to be done in 3D. After the massive success of James Cameron’s Avatar, Hollywood is all over 3D, so this really comes as no surprise. The surprise though was that Tracy Morgan, of the NBC sitcom “30 Rock” was rumored to be playing Matt Hooper, which would make the remake a comedy? No!

Over at Cinema Blend, this is what was said:

“A source of ours over at Universal Pictures says the studio is strongly considering a remake of the summer blockbuster in hopes of dazzling younger audiences with new special effects. Their claim is that people now expect more, visually, from their movie going experience. So, Hollywood studios are inclined to take some of their tried and true franchise names like Jaws and bring them into the 3D world. Our insider says Tracy Morgan was at one point being considered for the part of Matt Hooper, previously played by Richard Dreyfuss. While it’s uncertain whether that’s still the plan, it does indicate that they seem to be taking a more comedic direction with the part.”

MTV caught up with Tracy Morgan at the premiere of Cop Out and asked him about the Jaws remake. Morgan: “I would love to do a ‘Jaws’ movie. That was a great, great franchise. I would love to do ‘Jaws.'” But when asked if anyone has ever spoken to him about it, he answered: “Not yet.”

Hollywood loves remakes, so there is no doubt in my mind that a JAWS reboot in 3D will be coming, and as much as I, and other fans are not in favor of it, we will all plunk down our hard earned cash and see it. Universal knows this — there is a lot of money to be made. My hope is that they treat it seriously, and not make it a comedy or a jokey action flick. The original JAWS is a classic, with Oscar-nominated actors providing perfect performances. Please don’t cheapen the legacy of JAWS any more than 1983’s JAWS 3-D and 1987’s JAWS the Revenge already have.

What do you think? Do you think a remake of JAWS could actually work? Who would YOU like to see in the roles of Hooper, Brody and Quint (and Mayor Vaughn, Ellen Brody and Bad Hat Harry)? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. i love the new idea of making jaws in 3D because it would bring the great classic tale to life but i just wish that it will not be a comedy with tracy morgan in it that would just be plain suckish

  2. thanks sebastian,i too am torn. its gonna happen. if we cant get it just remastered, shined up and re released. follow the life of quint. uss indy!!!!!!!! speilbergs favorite scene. his life, his story, and take it all the way to alex kitners death.

  3. id rather arm wrestle the big chinese fella that hurt quints arm while he celebrated his third wifes “demeese”!!!!

  4. sick vandals!

  5. someone needs to be hung up by there buster browns.

  6. Jeremiah Cook

They already did a Jaws 3D! We have all that we need.

  7. The original JAWS movie, has become a part of my life. I grew up watching it over and over. And as time goes on I have realized that it is not the shark that has made this such a great movie, but the characters. I mean of course the special effects were bad compared to today’s movies, but the movie was less about the shark and more about Brody, and to a lesser extent, Hooper, Quint, the town of Amity.

I think a remake of this movie would be a tragedy, because it would never, COULD never do the original any justice. Todays special effects, while spectacular, are so distracting that they can completely hide the old, stale, and predictable story lines that today’s movies are built on.

We have alo changed the way we look at actors themselves over the past 35 years. Could we look at Martin Brody, the everyman, the same if he is played by some hollywood superstar? If his wife is played by some hotter-than-reality actress?

  8. So, if the film gets remade, which is out of our — the fans — hands and if it is indeed in 3D let us all hope that it isn’t Michael Bay they sign on to do it or any of his henchmen. And as much as I would like to see a real “fan’ director remake it, that might not be such a good thing. Too much personal baggage of being a fan. For instance Rob Zombie’s version of Halloween. An okay movie but a bad Halloween movie. That being sad, as far as casting, someone on the board said Adrian Brody. I think that’s a great idea. He is, though, a little young. Unless the script was rewritten and had Chef Brody as a not only the new police chef of Amity but also the youngest and the shark could be his big obstacle. It could work but it would be a little different than the book and the film but then again it’s a reboot so all bets are off. But what gave Brody his coolness in the original was his vulnerability. He was helpless in some ways. The part has to be played that way again in order for it to be believable. After the King Kong remake, would Adrian Brody do it?

As for Hooper, Sam Rockwell. Hands down. He would be awesome. He’s got this twitch thing and it’s also a bit of nervous energy which would be so cool for the part. He would, well, rock it.

Ellen Brody — that’s a head scratcher. She can’t be too in your face pretty and she has to have a great nurturing vibe because she is the glue that holds Chef Brody together. But being Hollywood they still need to get asses in the seats so a little hotness might be needed. Maybe, and this is just a thought, Jennifer Connelly or even Maggie Gyllenhaal. Both actress have a great mother like quality to them maybe because they both are mothers. And both would look good with Adrian Brody.

Mayor Larry Vaughn: Hmm? That’s a tough one. We need one part swarmy and one part glad-hander. Older than Chef Brody and just a prick. Alec Baldwin would be great if he didn’t do his Jack Donaghy thing from 30 Rock. But he has too much of a stigma of being, well, Alec Baldwin. Richard Jenkins could be very good too. He has that kind of go-behind-your-back presence sometimes.

And now for Sam Quint there are a few people that come to mind and each one would play it differently and that’s fine. Bruce Willis is the first actor that comes to mind. I know he is Bruce Willis but come-on, if he took the part serious and channeled his inner Amity angler and maybe read the Old Man and the Sea and really prepared for it and they were able to age him and enhance his crow’s feet and add sun damage he could really be good. One of the difficult things about playing Quint is the actor would have to be mindful as to not lampoon or do a “Robert Shaw impersonation”. Because that would be too easy to do. It’s a fine line. Kind of like Hannibal Lecter. Silence of the Lambs, great film, part two and three Lecter was less menacing and more charming. Kind of like a mass murdering Oscar Wilde. And that leads me to my next Quint option, Sir Anthony Hopkins. He is a bit old but perfectly weathered. There are a few things he would have to stop doing that he does but he might. Ed Harris would be okay. Someone had mentioned him on the board and maybe Gary Oldman. He’s a crazy S.O.B. Think the Professional. He would be great.

Depending on how the story goes and how much is unchanged the remake/reboot will be hated by fans and it will do well opening weekend but in order for the film to work again they way it did it has to be a human story and less a story about a shark eating rich New Englanders. But being that it’s going to be in 3D they might make the damn shark jump out at you ala Jaws 3D. Could it be tasteful? It could. Will it? Who knows. I guess we’ll just have to see.

There is a story there and it doesn’t have to shot for shot of the original. There were elements in the book that we’re left out, some for good reason, and others could be incorporated. It could also be a social commentary about technology not really being all that and how at the end of the day we still have to think and blah blah blah.

  9. I have been a jaws fanatic since i was a little boy. I have watched it so many times i know the lines by heart. I love the ocean because of movies like jaws and the deep. I scuba every chance i get all summer long every year. My thoughts on remakes is they suck. Just about every remake they do they murder the story and provide terrible acting to boot. You wont top the feel of the original. Nobody gets it, the original is in a time capsule. You will never recreate that time period when it was made. It was new,hip and scary because it hadnt been done before. The scary part was not seeing the shark for the longest time and when you did…wow. Now you will expect it and also it will be some lame cgi shark when you see it. Leave this movie alone, dont dilute it to make a few bucks to lure teenagers who have no concept of what a slap in the face it would be. LEAVE IT ALONE UNIVERSAL!!! And please, NO COMEDIANS!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. i love all Eddie Murphy movies. i like also the movie DAVE where he co stars with Elizabeth Banks.’`;

  11. scott carpenter

let me first say jaws was was never intended to be remade. to me it ended with jaws 2 martin brody was never going to be killed off steven speilberg would have never done that. just as he said he would never kill off indiana jones.i love jaws it is my favorite movie of all time do not remake this movie leave this classic alone.

  12. i grew u watching jaws & i say do a prequel with a young quint & some kind of a shark battle story with quint the hero.

  13. I think they should leave JAWS alone.Remake movies in 3D like Towering inferno and Earthquake.

  14. They should never do a re-make of this movie, they should leave it alone or better yet re-do the shark effects and make it CGI like they did for Jabba the Hutt when Star Wars was re-released in 1997. If they want a new JAWS movie just do another film with a new story and call it JAWS 5!

  15. I would love to see another Jaws movie, but not a remake. Jaws was perfect, there is no reason to remake it. It would be nice if they could make a good high quality sequel though. I am begging Universal not to let Tracy Morgan, one of the worst actors in Hollywood today, anywhere near it though. I don’t know how he contunues to get high profile work when he pretty much plays the same character over and over again. Why would Universal even consider putting such an important property in the hands of a comedic hack that has never even opened a big movie. If Morgan is involved then you might as well toss the “new” Jaws in the bargain DVD bin at Walmart with the other cheap crappy horror films.

  16. please do a jaws re-make ….it’s totally time ! people comparing it to the godfather are nuts! it’s a popcorn movie, speilberg should work w/cameron and do the film as close to the original as possible . can you imagine how off the hook it could be with modern effects and a little slicker production? i’m 100% for it! ….BTW i’m 46 and i saw the first two in the theaters so don’t start dissmissing me as some young kid who never saw the first one….i loved the original but c’mon the original shark was sooooo fake looking …..it’s time to terrify a whole new generation of kids out of going into the water.

  17. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A NEW JAWS IN 3-D, BUT IT MUST BE A SERIOUS MOVIE, LIKE TRACEY MORGAN BUT NOT IN A JAWS FILM.
AS FOR THE 3-D IT WILL BE A BIG IMPROVEMENT OF THE ’83 JAWS 3-D MOVIE. I SAW WHEN IT CAME OUT, THE ACTING AND WRITTING WAS SO BAD. I THINK JAWS THE REVENGE WAS BETTER EXCEPT FOR THE ROAR THAT THE SHARK MADE. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE MUNSTERS PET DRAGON SPOT. I LIKE JAWS 2 ALOT.

  18. Vince Vaughn is one of the best comedians today, he is also a very good looking guy.`:.

  19. Anthony Hopkins is one of the veteran actors in Hollywood that should be given a lifetime acheivement award.'”‘

  20. when i hear the name Anthony Hopkins, i always tought of the movie Meet Joe Black.~-‘

  21. I WILL NOT plunk down any money to see another wasted hollywood remake. If you want to sell out to the uninspired hollywood remake machine that will be on you. Boycott any remake of any classic movie.

  22. i love the idea of a jaws remake. jaws is my fav movie. but tray morgan as matt hopper i don’t think so. jaws+3D+21st century= AWSOMNESS!!!!!

  23. I would like another movie of jaws.Ive watched all movies of jaws a thousands of times and i still love it.

  24. i can’t beleive…..you whats your problem with tracey morgan he can play any role he wants geez what’s wrong with you

  25. dont worry chief, its not gonna be permanent, you wanna see something permanent, babababoom!

  26. Mitchell Masterson

Jaws 3D would be awesome it would put it back where it began and erase
    the past of horrible sequels.

  27. russel crowe should be the crazy guy who ownes the boat an gets eaten, an keanu reeves as the chief of police.
And if its going to be a black actor as chief of police it should be either the rock, denzel washington or will smith

  28. yeh man will be awewome if theres a new jaws movie the lst one i saw was jaws the revenge and i liked it, but if there bring it back mayb there coudl borrow some effects from piranha 3d lol wud b kool

  29. If your going to this Jaws 3D than your cast needs to be : Chief Brody- Nicholas Cage, Ms. Brody-Kelly Carlson, Depty-Cody Rhodes he is a WWE wrestler but a great actor, Mayor-Anthony Hopkins, Matt Hooper-Ryan Reynolds, and The Fisherman-Jim Beaver Jr. ……… And don’t forget to make the Jaws 35ft of terror make him look real…….

  30. Also make it a serious movie….. Not a comedy!!!!!!!!

  31. Lol that will be ded kool, i think that it will be one of the best 3d horrors of alltime because imaging a shark attacking and its in 3D coming toward you :)), awsum

  32. I think a remake of Jaws would be great….but tracy morgan would not be good in the movie.

they should carry on from the series of jaws, maybe when thea is all grown up and is the new sheriff in amity.

  33. Its hard for me to say yes or no to this considering its my favorite film of all films I’ve seen to this day. I personally think Jaws is just too good for a remake. But knowing how money hungry Hollywood gets, it does seem imminent. If the have to do it, then here’s my terms on what would make it redeemable.

-Keep the CG to a minimum or used sparingly and still have some mechanical/live shark footage all mixed in.

-Good luck finding a new and convincing score to top John Williams, unless your thinking of hiring him back.

-Bring in some more aspects of the novel like Brody/Hoopers tension towards each other, Hooper/Ellen’s affair, and the mob leaning on Mr. Vaughn and figure a way to condense it w/o making the film too long.

    -JEFF FAHEY MUST PLAY QUINT

-NO CHRISTIAN BALE (or CHRISTIAN WAIL as i like to call him) as Brody (or quint as i once heard he was rumored to want to play if Jaws was remade)

-Find a more innovative/realistic way to kill the shark. (loved the air tank idea, but was proven myth by mythbusters, and the novel ending was just flat out terrible)

-and finally no, AND I MEAN NO “3D”

  34. I waanat a lot of giant and baby sharks in the movie. Also, I want Tracy Morgan to be in hte movie.

  35. My picks are:
    brody – Bradley Cooper
Hooper – Joshua Jackson – i seen him with a beard and glasses doing an interview once and he was hooper
    quint – Jack Nicholson

  36. Can the old Jaws movie be used? Can it be re formatted or enhanced with 3-D technology? Hard to touch the performances of the original actors. However, if they use new actors, how about the following?

    Brody: Dustin Hoffman
    Hooper: Justin Timberlake
    Quint: Dennis Hopper
    Jaws: Rosie O’donnell

  37. Yeah they should remake maybe do a different storyline or something. Just about any remakes do crappy in theatres. People me like something new but so stupid on the effect. Kinda texas chainsaw mascre more like realistic. They might as make it cause Jaws is showing up on the Amity shoreline so it would be a great to do it. As long effect arent as stupid as pirahana remake I watch it. Tired of all shark movies they come out with are way to fake like when they have these shark swallowing boats or jet skies crap like that is very disappointing

  38. jaws is my and my husbands favorite movie of all time. i just bought him 2 cool jaws shirts for christmas. check them out, heres the link if your interested. they were under the movies catagory . well worth it!

    http://stores.ebay.com/commonstitch?_trksid=p4340.l2563

  39. 👿 a black guy for hooper? screw that cast zac brown (country)

  40. No remake!  I wouldn’t be too upset if they remade Jaws 3 or Jaws the revenge.  But not the original.

  41. Now that would make sense.

  42. He can’t play Matt Hooper.  Don’t even consider it.

  43. if it made the shark would cgi and it would suck big time fans will say dont make the movies but hallwood would make it just for the money

  44. Nielsenandrew33

No not tracy morgan hes the most annoying thing on the planet

  45. Can they just use the original. First the ending of the ride now this

  46. this masacre should be stopped!!!!!!

  47. to true

  48. perfectly said

  49. quint could totally be Jack Nickolson and Richard D. could be an important piece for the next movie

  50. Thea should be in menopause right now, some one younger like moi would make sense
