JAWS in 30 Seconds by the Cast

New JAWS Game Coming for Wii and 3DS

From Gamespot.com:

In the original Jaws film, the titular great white shark killed numerous swimmers before ultimately meeting his demise. However, the shark is coming back for vengeance this year in Jaws: Ultimate Predator.

Jaws: Ultimate Predator ripping flesh on the Wii and 3DS this fall.

Set 35 years after the events of Jaws, Majesco’s Jaws: Ultimate Predator will be released on Nintendo systems the Wii and 3DS this fall. The 3DS version of Ultimate Predator is currently in development at n-Space and will be produced by MicroProse.

As for its content, Ultimate Predator for the 3DS has gamers taking on “an army of shark hunters” by using the system’s touch screen to perform attacks and to dodge.

The Wii version of Ultimate Predator is in development at Tectonic Studios and takes a similarly violent route. It also has players assuming the role of the great white shark while hunting and killing prey with 20 unique attack combinations.

Gamers will take on bosses like the Tiger Shark, Killer Whale, and Sea Serpent, which are creatures that Majesco says “match Jaws in strength and size.” Further, the game will be set in Hawaii and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as Amity Island, the setting of the iconic attack from the film.

JAWS 2 Posters

The massive success of JAWS spawned JAWS 2, which is pretty much considered the only watchable JAWS sequel, mostly due to the presence of Roy Scheider, who was contractually obligated to appear. No Spielberg, no Dreyfuss, but screenwriter Carl Gottlieb and production designer Joe Alves did return. Amity returned as well as Martha’s Vineyard was again used as a shooting location, with additional scenes shot in Florida. JAWS 2 was a box office smash, setting the stage for the deluge of sequels we have had ever since.

Here are some of the posters used in the JAWS 2 marketing campaign around the world:

AICN Talks to Spielberg, Full Interview, JAWS Blu-Ray

The full interview Quint of AICN did with Steven Spielberg is available on the Ain’t it Cool News Site. The biggest news for JAWS fans was, of course, Spielberg spilling the beans that the JAWS Blu-Ray is in the works. But there was more … Check out the full interview here: Quint Interview with Spielberg.

Here’s an excerpt of how the stage was set:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Let me set the stage for this. I put out my feelers out a couple months back with some people at Dreamworks (with much help from mega publicist Deb Wuliger) about getting Steven Spielberg on the phone to talk Jaws, the idea being we could time it to its pending anniversary.

That was the pitch, but that was all cover. I really just wanted to talk to the director of my favorite movie of all time ABOUT my favorite movie of all time. I’m sure my ruse was as transparent as clean plate glass window (I don’t hide my geekiness very well), but the kind souls around Spielberg allowed my request to make it to him and I heard back an enthusiastic yes right before Memorial Day weekend.

We were going to schedule a time between then and June 20th, which was the latest the interview could go up as that was the anniversary of the release of Jaws in 1975, but as of Thursday afternoon I hadn’t heard anything back …

JAWS Blu-Ray in the Works, According to Spielberg

Quint of Aint it Cool News had a lengthy phone interview with Steven Spielberg who confirmed that the JAWS Blu-Ray is in the works. An excerpt is posted on the AICN site now, with the full interview to be posted Monday.

Quint: Is there a Jaws Blu-Ray in the works?

Steven Spielberg: Yes, there is. Yes, there is. I’ve already seen some of it. I don’t have a date yet, but there’s a Blu-Ray absolutely in the works.

Quint: I can’t wait, man. I love that the last DVD release actually had the original mono soundtrack on it as well. I wasn’t a fan of the remixed 5.1 sound – the splashing sounded canned.

Steven Spielberg: Oh, I know. I totally understand that. (In the future) there’s going to be no more digital enhancements or digital additions to anything based on any film I direct. I’m not going to do any corrections digitally to even wires that show.

Trailer for SyFy’s “Swamp Shark”

SyFy presents – “Swamp Shark“! This looks to be a another b-movie remake of JAWS, set in a swamp! It stars the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kristy Swanson, D.B. Sweeney and Robert Davi. I swear I saw Malachi from Children of the Corn in there as well. We all love JAWS, and cheesy ripoff flicks like this must be seen for their comedic value. Looking forward to the inevitable sequel “Swamp Shark vs. Sharktopus“. Check out the trailer below the poster:

New JAWS Making Of Book Coming Soon!

Documenting the impact of the film on island history has been a full-time job over the last two years for Matt Taylor, who is polishing a 300-page account of how “Jaws” was made.

The book, titled “Martha’s Vineyard Remembers Jaws,” includes about 800 never before published photographs of the production snapped by islanders, and 65 interviews with those closest to the filming.

Taylor said readers will be surprised to learn about the impact island residents had on the film’s success, pointing particularly to contributions from Susan and Lynn Murphy.
Lynn Murphy, a Vineyard marine mechanic, was hired to help run the special effects in the water.

“They were having a terrible time with it until Lynn came along and set everything straight,” said Taylor. “Lynn, and his knowledge of how to do things on the water, really saved the production.”

The photos in his book were compiled by “Jaws” fan and memorabilia collector Jim Beller who, despite technology advances that make some of the “Jaws” special effects look rudimentary 35 years later, isn’t worried the movie will lose its luster for the “Avatar” generation of fans.

“If you love a good suspenseful movie, a movie that has everything, or you are a Steven Spielberg fan, see it,” he said. “If you like swimming — think twice.”
