Quint Caricature

I found a nice caricature of Quint as he sat in front of the Amity town council. Evidently it was published in the April 2008 issue of Paracinema magazine. The artist of the sketch is Dan Springer.

Custom JAWS Action Figures

Mike Lorenz created some amazing custom JAWS figures of Brody, Quint, and Hooper. Here’s some info about the figures from Mike:

“It took 2 action figures to make 1 figure. Brody comes with a spear, rifle, pistol, and air tank. I did him in the classic outfit he had on at the end of the movie. Quint comes with a spear-gun, fishing rod, and a machete. He was done in the outfit when he first sees the shark. Hooper comes with 2 barrels and a 35mm camera. He was done in the outfit near the end of the movie. On the front of each package are the words…it’s as if God created the devil himself and gave him ….Jaws.

I don’t like to tell all my secrets for making my custom figures, but I’ll tell you what I can. All of the figures I used modeling clay on. Quint’s army jacket and shirt is all molded in clay, pockets and all. He also has Quint in black over the right upper pocket. Hooper’s sweatshirt is also done from modeling clay. His hair is done in the clay. I tried to get it so the hair is wavey and all over the place. Brody’s gun belt/buckle is made from clay as well. The air tank is made from modeling clay. The spear-gun, machete, camera, fishing rod and spear are all custom made. I used balsa wood, clay, putty, and glue.

For the packaging I went with the 25th anniversary picture. All the cards have the character’s pic of the outfit they are wearing as the figure. It also has their name on the card as well as what the figure comes with.”

Highlights of the Peter Benchley Collection at BU

Long-time Forum regular Dana Goudreault visited the Gottlieb Research Center at Boston University and got to check out the Peter Benchley Collection there. Dana went there with Jim Beller, webmaster of JAWScollector.com. Here’s some pictures of what they saw in the Benchley collection.

Dana said, “Here are a couple pics from the Peter Benchley collection at the Gottlieb Research Center at BU. Jim and I paid a visit yesterday and enjoyed ourselves for nearly four hours, browsing through the history of the making of JAWS in a way that transported you back to the good ol’ days like never before. I encourage anyone and everyone to contact the center and arrange a visit when you’re in the Greater Boston area.”

A special thanks to Dana and Jim for sharing these pictures!

‘New England Our Way’ TV show (1974)

Thanks to Dan Ward for providing a copy of the 1974 TV program New England Our Way. The program is a fascinating look some at the key people involved with JAWS before it was released. It contains interviews with the “big three” of Scheider, Dreyfuss and Shaw, Steven Spielberg, and Martha’s Vineyard local Craig Kingsbury, who played Ben Gardner. Check out the video clips below:

All That JAWS – JAWS Parody Film

Way back in 1988, TSISW’s Michael Roddy and Erik Hollander as well as Chuck Gramling made a hilarious parody of JAWS called All That JAWS. Check out the trailer below:

NoFest – JAWS Fans Recreate Beach Party Scene

In 2006, a group of JAWS fans returned to Amity (Martha’s Vineyard) for another celebration of JAWS. There wasn’t an official JAWSFest in 2006, so the gathering was dubbed “NoFest” instead. One of the
things we did was try to recreate the opening beach scene from JAWS. Photo taken and photoshopping done by Erik Hollander (click for full size version):

JAWS Cards – Just Like Topps!

JAWS fan Erik Hollander always wished there were Topps-style bubblegum trading cards for JAWS, and since there weren’t, he decided to create a set.  Check it out!
