JAWS in 30 Seconds by the Cast

JAWS Blu-Ray Steelbook Released

The UK-only exclusive Steelbook version of JAWS on Blu-Ray was released on September 4, 2012.

Amazon.co.uk will ship the Steelbook to the US, which is how I got my copy.  It did take 6 days to get delivered, but if you must have all things JAWS, order it today, because it is a limited edition.

The only difference between this edition and the US edition is the packaging.  All the content of the Blu-Ray is the same, including the Blu-Ray exclusive documentary The Shark is Still Working as well as the Making of JAWS documentary that originally appeared on the JAWS Collector’s Edition Laserdisc a few years ago.

UK-based New Empress Magazine created two short videos in honor of the JAWS Blu-Ray release, one about the JAWS release, and one about the JAWS sequels.

Check them out below:

JAWS Restoration for the Blu-ray

Universal posted this video demonstrating the clean up of the original JAWS negatives for the blu-ray transfer.

Over the course of several months, skilled technicians at Universal Studios Digital Services meticulously balanced color, removed dirt and scratches, and repaired any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame. Following the picture restoration, Universal Studios Sound team up-mixed the iconic Jaws soundtrack to DTS-HD Master 7.1, optimizing the sound on the Blu-ray for the best home theater technology.
The entire restoration process was conducted in conjunction with Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment’s post-production team to ensure the integrity of Spielberg’s original vision remained intact.

The JAWS Ride: Final Voyage 1/2/2012

The date was the last day of the ride, which is being demolished to make room for a new attraction. We interviewed JAWS fans, a former Skipper of the Ride and watched the ride wait times increase throughout the day.

Trailer for SyFy’s “Swamp Shark”

SyFy presents – “Swamp Shark“! This looks to be a another b-movie remake of JAWS, set in a swamp! It stars the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kristy Swanson, D.B. Sweeney and Robert Davi. I swear I saw Malachi from Children of the Corn in there as well. We all love JAWS, and cheesy ripoff flicks like this must be seen for their comedic value. Looking forward to the inevitable sequel “Swamp Shark vs. Sharktopus“. Check out the trailer below the poster:

JAWS Super 8mm Version

Eddie McCormack of jawsmoviearchives.com uploaded this to YouTube and says about it:

“Following the release of JAWS in 1975 the world was awash with related tie-in memorabilia, among the endless items was a single Super 8mm cine reel featuring a heavily edited version of the blockbuster long out of print.

One of the most notable features about of the Super 8mm edition of JAWS is the opening attack on swimmer ‘Chrissie Watkins’, it’s common knowledge that the scene was shot ‘day for night’ for the movie, but less known is the fact that an ungraded version of the daytime shot footage that differs from the final movie appears on the Super 8mm edition.

This discovery was one of the main reasons I originally wanted to convert and view this version of the movie. Obviously due the nature and age of the source material used, the section isn’t perfect but I’ve enhanced the scene to try and present it as clean and bright as the original cine without going too over the top with the contrast and colour correction.

I will be revisiting this at a later stage to restore the original audio, but for now I hope JAWS fans out there enjoy this vintage reel.”
