I’m sure this has been covered before, but I have never seen it. What exactly was editted out of Chrissie’s autopsy scene, why was it editted and is there any video of the original scene? I have read some ideas on the Nitpickers web-site, but someone here should have the definitive answer. I’ll hang up and listen to your answer.

I’ve read it was just a sloppy edit.

Erm….what was left to operate on?
The only remaining part of her body was her arm….right?

I remember seeing JAWS when it was originally released. I also remember seeing early presentations of it on TV. The scene you’re referring to is one I’ve been searching for for ages. I just get so annoyed with the horribly chopped edit there. Hooper picks up Chrissie’s severed arm and says, “This is what happens” and there’s a hard cut there and a few moments are lost. The scene picks up with Hooper talking about shark feeding. During the missing seconds, Hooper explains “what happens” when a large predatory shark feeds. There’s not much cut, but it’s just such a hack job that it’s nearly intolerable. I keep looking for a Director’s Cut that has all of the movie in it, but as yet haven’t found one.
