Dead Whaleshark

Its been in the news. About the dead whaleshark in Karachi, Pakistan. Does anyone know if the shark was actually dead when caught or alive. There seem to be conflicting stories. Semi-conscious, unconscious and dead. Was it dead before or after it was taken ashore?
