My wife and I were planning on taking a driving trip to Florida and back and we planned on staying at the Jaws 2 hotel on the way (Navarre Beach Holiday Inn). But, the further I investigate it, the more old posts (from 2005, 2006) in blogs about the hotel that I am coming across that state that it was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan and that it would not be replaced, or perhaps replaced by a modern building. Does anyone have the scoop on this piece of Jaws 2 lore? Is it completely gone or has the original been rebuilt? Is the pool still in place? It will be sad if the iconic indoor pool is gone…

Here is a link to a Wikipedia site that offers some help. Doesn’t look as though it was rebuilt.

As big of a fan as I am of Jaws, I never knew that Jaws 2 was filmed at Navarre Beach and that the Holiday Inn was the hotel used. When I was a kid, my parents used to take my sister and me to Navarre Beach a few times a year for a weekend get-a-way. We ALWAYS stayed at the Holiday Inn however back then it was an outdoor pool and not the inside one that you see in the movie. The last time we went there was probably 1974 or 1975 so Jaws 2 was filmed shortly after. I know I still have pictures of us playing and swimming there. The beaches there were so beautiful. I can see why they chose that area to film it.

Thanks for the info, it is problably gone. But, I will give them a call anyway…maybe they rebuilt it or the pool is still there!

    Hello!

I also spent many a weekends in my teen years staying at the Holiday Inn at Navarre Beach…LOVED IT! The last time I stayed there was in 1990 with college friends, but we did walk over and swim in the indoor pool in 1999 while staying at the neighboring Navarre Towers. The first set of hurricanes badly damaged the Holiday Inn and then Ivan pretty much did it in. It sat gutted for a good while before it was finally torn down about 6 years ago. Nothing has replaced it yet…the parking lot is still there, though mostly covered with sand. It is sorely missed and now there is no hotel at all on Navarre Beach. If you plan to stay there, though, I highly recommend Navarre Towers or Belle Mer…just steps away from the old Holiday Inn.
