I actually think this is inevitable. A true sequel looks like a dim hope, where as a remake may be the way Hollywood would go. That being said, if they do one I hope that Speilberg is involved. I would hope he would direct it, but at least produce and be closely involved.
I would also hope that Kyle Chandler, from Super 8 and Friday Night Lights TV series, would be considered for Brody. Anyone that has watched Chandler's Coach Taylor deal with all the politics on FNL can easily see him as Cheif Brody battling Mayor Vaughn and the town politics. Not to mention his family dynamics on that great show. He could easily capture family man Brody and all his vulnerabilities. Fear of the water, outrage as his son is put in danger, he would be a perfect pitch for a modern Cheif Brody.
If “they” would remake a Hitchcock classic like ‘Psycho’, you can guarantee they’ll re do Jaws. As “NYG…” stated, it’s inevitable the way Hollywood is going. They’re completely out of fresh ideas, so they’re remaking the hits from the glory days. But as “E. lucious” stated, I, too, hope that I am dead before this takes place.
The problem is that it would be subpar. Shaw and Schieder are irreplaceable. But I would like to see an updated version set in the same time period (given we know quite a bit more about white sharks and rogue theory has been disproved many times). I’d also would like to see more of the actually book used. More victims in the book.
