Quint's Beer

With widescreen TV I finally got a chance to freeze frame and look at the beer can that Quint drinks and crushes on the Orca right before Hooper crushes the styrofoam.

Being born in the south, I had never seen nor heard of a Narraganssett. I managed to find a can on eBay that was exactly the same as the one in the movie and it still had it's pull tab intact.

I set out to actually taste Naraganssett and I looked online and found the company (quite a history) and found that I could not have it shipped to me in Alabama. I had to wait until I had a co-worker who was going to the North East and got me one can.

I iced it down in it's own bucket of of ice and started Jaws and when it got to the part where Quint kills the beer I popped the top and killed mine too…hoping to get that same taste and flavor that he had in 1975.

I wish I could get Naraganssett….

As a youngster I remember my father drank Naragansett and when I first saw that scene I thought it was cool

Ive had it at a regional pub chain that keeps a couple hundred beers on tap and a couple dozen bottled types. Great place really on pint night.

I dont really remember anything about it other than it being a fairly average American-Lager.

Tastes like snake-piss, till it gets warm, then it's practically undrinkable, but still preferable over a cold can of Schlitz. Talk about skunk-piss.

If you want great lager then it has to be the Czech Republic. I often fly over to Prague for a weekend of Goulash and Pilsner.

Munich a close second followed by Belgium.

Jesus, it's not even 9am and I'm thinking about beer.

Yes…it was just about the same a Budweiser….but it's the nostalgia factor…and Quint drank it. Plus part of it is that I can't get it because it isn't available in the south.
In the internet age I am used to being able to get what I want no matter where it is…but Quints beer is elusive.

That company should really consider teaming with Universal and reissuing a special Jaws can for the upcoming Jawsfest in 2011 as the official beer of Jaws…

My girlfriend and I read this little tale at the same time, finished at the same time and had something to say about it at exactly the same time.

However i said thats cool as hell and she said that was sad. I think shes wrong, id love so much to have one of those beers in one of those cans and theres only one way id drink it too, id have my fingers crossed that I got a little froth tache too.

Hey Every1 ,

I watched JAWS again last Friday, and I was wondering the samething, what kind of beer is he drinking. I am Originally from Ohio; and have never heard of it. Is Narragansett only sold in the North East? If any1 can answer this I'd really appreciate it.
