A couple of movies about the U.S.S. Indianapolis have been in the works for a while now http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2032572/ and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2028595/ but could director Steven Spielberg and writer John Milius create (co-write and co-direct) a definitive version, something that could be a fitting tribute to the real crewmen, and which could combine and embody the awe and poignancy of Saving Private Ryan (1998), The Fighting Sullivans (1944)[examples of brotherly love], and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) (scenes where the veterans had difficulty adjusting to civilian life), with a little of Guadalcanal Diary (1943) thrown in, such as scenes where the boisterous marines were laughing, joking and singing (William Bendix’s character, etc) below decks as they steamed to the South Pacific?
